New Thoracic Murmurs, with Two New Instruments, the Refractoscope and the Partial Stethoscope

چکیده
1. An understanding of the physics of sound is essential for a better comprehension of refined auscultation, tone analysis, and the use of these instruments. 2. The detection of variations of the third heart sound should prove a valuable aid in predicting mitral disease. 3. The variations of the outflow sound should prove a valuable aid in determining early aortic lesions with the type of accompanying intimal changes. 4. The character of chamber timbre as distinct from loudness heard as the first and second heart sounds denotes more often the condition of heart muscle, and must not be confounded with valvular disease. 5. The full significance of sound shadows is uncertain. Cardiac sound shadows appear normally in the right axilla and below the left clavicle. Their mode of production is quite clear. 6. Both the third heart sound and the outflow sound may be heard with the ordinary stethoscope.

A New Stethoscope Design with Unique Characteristics and Development in Medical Device
As regards the significant role of stethoscopes in the diagnosis of congenital and adventitious heart diseases and prevention of irreparable complications of these diseases, the quality of hearing sound of these stethoscopes by a physician has a significant impact on the disease diagnosis. This device plays an important role in the early diagnosis of congenital heart and respiratory diseases an...
متن کاملCardiac auscultation training of medical students: a comparison of electronic sensor-based and acoustic stethoscopes
BACKGROUND To determine whether the use of an electronic, sensor based stethoscope affects the cardiac auscultation skills of undergraduate medical students. METHODS Forty eight third year medical students were randomized to use either an electronic stethoscope, or a conventional acoustic stethoscope during clinical auscultation training. After a training period of four months, cardiac auscul...
متن کاملHeart murmurs recorded by a sensor based electronic stethoscope and e-mailed for remote assessment.
BACKGROUND Heart murmurs are common in children, and they are often referred to a specialist for examination. A clinically innocent murmur does not need further investigation. The referral area of the University Hospital is large and sparsely populated. A new service for remote auscultation (telemedicine) of heart murmurs in children was established where heart sounds and short texts were sent ...
متن کاملName that murmur--eponyms for the astute auscultician.
After the introduction of the stethoscope by René Laennec in 1819, the art of auscultation gained traction as a group of early adopters described the heart murmurs they were now able to hear. A race to discover and define ensued. Leading physicians published their new observations, and a robust crop of eponyms was born for use by future generations of physicians and medical trainees. This list ...
متن کاملAnatomic variations of the auditory canal pertaining to the fit of stethoscope earpieces.
Leaks in the enclosed acoustical system of the stethoscope reduce its efficiency and can greatly impair the physician's ability to detect the faint murmurs of early valvular heart disease. The results of this study demonstrate a high degree of variability in size and configuration of the external auditory meatus among different individuals. It appears probable that both excessive leaks and also...
